About Me
With
a background of over 30 years motorcycling behind me from my first bike Honda
100 then my ugly but reliable MZ 125, Suzuki ER250 after passing my test then
upgrading to my first big bike CBR 600f after my 2 years’ probation was up.
After that bike breathed its last I tried a Triumph T595 for a couple of years
which had plenty of growl before buying a bullet proof 1994 VFR 750 which would
still be around had it not been stolen by a couple of scroats and destroyed in
what must have been a very hair-raising 2 mile journey carrying my two
pushbikes and a toolbox which I would find very admirable in more benevolent
circumstances.
This
led to a brief hiatus after which I treated myself to a mint Honda Blackbird
just for the thrill of it. Another VFR 750 accompanied that purchase and is
currently my only bike after the Blackbird was cruelly written off in a spill
on the A66 involving some rogue gravel left by the council on a roundabout.
A
brief stint on a Suzuki DR650 to ride across Australia made an epic journey
even more epic and given the right circumstances I would have kept hold of that
bike and wouldn’t hesitate to get another to undertake a similar journey. A lot
of bike for a little money comparably IMO.
But
no need to extol the virtues of biking to other bikers – we all have our
reasons for loving two wheels.
And
so to Tiger-tours and India. After several visits to India my fascination and
love for the country does not diminish. It is at times hard work, too hot and
lays bare the wrapped in cotton wool lives we generally lead in the west but it
never fails to fascinate and deliver memorable experiences. And the food is
great. A brief stint touring Goa on a
Royal Enfied was followed up a number of years later by a solo tour of the
Golden Triangle on a Bullet that has left me with an appetite to see more and
enjoy the riding experience only India can offer. A visit to Corbett national
park and a close shave with a bull elephant was followed by a day safari at
Sariska tiger reserve and while we never saw the tiger in the flesh, the thrill
of seeing very recently laid footprints in the ground along with the other
wildlife there, was enough to wet my
appetite with anticipation of seeing
that elusive graceful beast in all its glory in the wild.
And
what better way to do that than to share that experience with fellow bikers and
travellers. Tiger-tours will take the headache out of the organization of your
trip so you can concentrate on the ride and the experience. We will use local
tour guides whose knowledge of the country and culture will be invaluable.
Guides who are equally passionate about two wheels. Each tour will also be
accompanied by a local mechanic for any mechanical issues that may arise along
the way. Accommodation will be sourced by people with local knowledge. We will
be mindful of your budget and tailor tours to your needs and budgetary
constraints.
We
will operate with an awareness for the environment in which we travel and as a
means of increasing the awareness of the responsibility we have we will plant a
tree in the country of origin and India for every traveller that takes a tour
with us; our tours will be conducted in a manner that seeks to support the local environment and communities we visit,
contributing to the local economy. We will conduct tours in a way that allows
you to immerse in the Indian culture and communities along the way.
Whilst
Tiger-tours will start initially with fully organised tours and pre-arranged
accommodation and food my ambition is to offer a stripped down tour to what I
term a ‘bareback tour’ where we as riders meet up and ride daily to wherever we
decide to end that day, arranging our accommodation along the way. And the
beauty of this is the cost of such tours whilst becoming more adventurous will also
become more affordable.
So
please, keep in touch with us as we develop and consider joining us on one or
more of our tours along the way.
Nameste - Salam Alaikum - Thank you & Good day!
